A Day of Remembrance: Celebrating the memory of all those who served in the Pacific during World War II, in the Bataan Death March, at the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor National Museum in Wellsburg, WV. On an unusually cold and snowy day, we remember those on the 74th Anniversary of the surrender, on April 9, 2016. Program of the days events included: 0900 Hours- Presentation of Colors Weirton Marine Club 0915 Hours- Pledge of Allegiance/Star Spangle Banner by the 40 Plus Choir 0920 Hours- Invocation by Jeff Cionni of the Wellsburg Elks 0930 Hours- Recognition of our many guests and dignitaries 0945 Hours- Remarks by the Preseident of the ADBC Board, Richard Lizza 0948 Hours- God Bless America/Country Roads by the 40 Plus Choir 1000 Hours- Recognition of Veterans by PT 2 James S. Brockman, USN ---Pfc. Byron C. Gordon, USMC 4th Marines, HQ Philippines ---Capt. Walter A. Linaberger Jr., Chaplains Corps USA ETO ---Cpl. Earl E. Loughner, Army Air Corps, Philippines ---Capt. Albert Magone, USA Combat Infantry, Philippines ---Capt. William Perilman, USA Medical Corps, Philippines ---Cpl. Houston E. Turner, USA Combat Infantry, Philippines ---Pfc. Andrew Virda, Army Air Corps, Philippines ---Pfc. John M. Zubay, USA Combat Engineers, Philippines 1045 Hours- Presentation by Doug Lilly, Ohio Valley Barbwire Chapter 1 1100 Hours- Taps, Salute and Wreath Laying behind library/museum 1115 Hours- View ADBC Museum then head to Elks Lodge for lunch 1200 Hours- Lunch All-in-all despite the weather it was a fantastic day filled with shared memories of the loved and lost. Thank you to these men above who served, as well as those who could not be there due to their untimely deaths or inability to make the trip. See you next year for the 75th Anniversary! |
